Wildlife Curator

The Assistant Curator of Birds, Herptiles and Invertebrates will play a critical role in the success of our animal management team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for leading and inspiring a team of keepers, providing excellent leadership and management, and ensuring continued improvement of standards of animal care.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams, with a strong understanding of conservation and education principles. They will also have a breadth of specialist knowledge of the modern practices for the keeping of birds, herptiles, and invertebrates, with extensive knowledge in either bird or herptile management in zoos, if not both.

In this exciting opportunity, you will be responsible for:

• Leading and inspiring a team of keepers, providing excellent leadership and management.
• Ensuring continued improvement of standards of animal care in line with best practice, SSSMZP, and zoo licensing requirements.
• Regularly assessing animal management, recommending and implementing areas for improvement.
• Establishing positive communication channels internally with other curators, animal team members, and the wider TZ team.
• Assuming Duty Animal Manager responsibilities on a rota basis with the other senior animal team.

Salary: £33,000 per annum
