Role Purpose

To provide comprehensive indirect tax compliance services to Arch Insurance across the UK and Europe and support the UK and EMEA tax teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initial preparation and filing of all non-UK premium tax returns in conjunction with external advisors, including regular reconciliations to ledgers.
  • Preparation of tax authority information filings and other ad-hoc requests.
  • Support the Indirect Tax Manager with the preparation of quarterly UK premium tax filings.
  • Monitor, review, and implement process efficiencies and controls and support the identification, implementation, and maintenance of any tax technology tools.
  • Liaison with internal teams, tax authorities, external auditors, and advisers as required.
  • First point of contact for insurance premium tax-related queries, including liaison with underwriters and brokers.
  • Monitoring and keeping up-to-date with premium tax developments.
  • Assisting the wider tax team with ad-hoc tasks and projects across the UK, EMEA, and Group.

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and clear presentation of data.
  • Good level of written and spoken communication.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple deadlines, and work as part of a team.
  • The ability to independently organize, prioritize, and manage several strands of work to make best use of available resources to produce coherent, timely outcomes.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach to developing strong working relationships with all stakeholders and the ability to manage conflicting views.
  • Confidence to ask questions and challenge information provided and initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity.
  • A proactive attitude to identifying problems and recommending implementing solutions.
  • A willingness to challenge oneself to quickly adapt to unfamiliar issues, systems, and processes.

Qualifications

Accounting/tax qualification preferred but not essential if proven to have relevant experience.

Experience

Insurance experience strongly preferred. Premium tax compliance and technical knowledge strongly preferred. Other indirect tax experience an advantage. Strong data analysis and data extract capabilities, in particular MS Excel skills essential. Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office software essential.
