Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant in Medical Microbiology to join our team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a comprehensive and efficient clinical Microbiology, infection prevention and control, and laboratory service to the Trust and other users of the Microbiology laboratory.

The appointee will work closely with the existing team of Consultant Medical Microbiologists to provide daily clinical and infection control duties, including laboratory bench rounds, clinical ward rounds, reviewing Microbiology results, and authorising Microbiology reports.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Clinical Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control, with experience in management and a thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a comprehensive and efficient clinical Microbiology, infection prevention and control, and laboratory service to the Trust and other users of the Microbiology laboratory.
  • Work closely with the existing team of Consultant Medical Microbiologists to provide daily clinical and infection control duties.
  • Review and authorise Microbiology reports, and provide expert advice on infection prevention and control.
  • Participate in the on-call service on a one week in four basis.
Requirements
  • MB BS or equivalent qualification.
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in management and a thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
