About the Role

This role involves working with complex cases involving children, families, and carers, using systemic social work methods, models, and tools. You will be responsible for implementing positive change, managing and minimising risks of abuse and neglect, while meeting care needs and exercising professional judgement.

As a Senior Children Services Social Work Specialist, you will lead and oversee professional judgements within legal and policy frameworks. You will undertake high-need comprehensive/complex assessments, plan how those needs will be met, and review/reassess needs accordingly.

Responsibilities
  • Case Management: Manage and monitor a high-need, complex, and challenging caseload of children, families, and carers, developing and implementing casework while making recommendations to management on irregularities or serious issues.
  • Assessment and Planning: Undertake in-depth and robust assessments, care planning, and review activities, formulating recommendations for support plans.
  • Court Representation: Prepare applications and reports for court, representing the Council in legal proceedings, and making recommendations regarding legal action when appropriate.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Maintain high-level knowledge of legislation, regulations, and departmental procedures related to working with children, families, and carers.
Requirements
  • Professional Qualification: Professional qualification in Social Work and registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (or any successor body).
  • Experience: Pre or post-qualifying Children's Social Work experience within a statutory or voluntary setting, extensive experience in successfully managing complex cases, and significant demonstrable post-qualification experience.
  • Skills and Behaviours: Up-to-date professional and technical expertise in children's social care, knowledge of complex social work theories and values, thorough and current knowledge of proposed and actual legislation, and the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong track record of delivering effective social work services, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary of £40,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits including a contributory pension scheme, annual leave, and opportunities for professional development.
