Job Title: Senior Clinical Academic in Dental Education

We are seeking an exceptional clinician with a strong track record in dental education to join our team as a Senior Clinical Academic in Dental Education. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to deliver, manage, and develop our innovative undergraduate dental curricula.

The role involves providing academic leadership, supporting the School's Director of Education, and ensuring quality in our educational provision. You will also contribute to leadership in the implementation of the General Dental Council's Safe Practitioner learning outcomes and support the development of the School's strategies on digital dentistry and sustainability.

As a leader in the School's education team, you will help shape strategies for the development of the discipline and contribute to leadership in the delivery of excellent education and student experience. You will work with the School leadership to realise our strategic ambitions and be responsible to the Head of School.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Supporting the School's Director of Education in academic leadership, including setting the School's strategic direction in teaching and assessment.
  2. Being a key link between the School's leadership and clinical teaching staff to ensure our educational strategy is embedded across all of the School's teaching activities.
  3. Ensuring quality in the School's provision of education, including chairing relevant committees, supporting year leads, and representing the School at Faculty and/or University education meetings.
  4. Contributing to leadership in the School's implementation of the General Dental Council's Safe Practitioner learning outcomes.
  5. Contributing to and/or leading development of the School's strategies on digital dentistry and sustainability.
  6. Supporting the School's Strategic Leadership Team in decision-making in response to internal and external opportunities and challenges.
  7. For appropriately qualified and experienced candidates, leading the School's developing interests in pedagogic research.
  8. Supporting junior colleagues in developing their careers in dental education.

Person Specification:
  • To have and maintain full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council.
  • Royal College of Surgeons membership (e.g., MFDS or equivalent), or Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (e.g., FDS or equivalent), or other relevant postgraduate clinical qualification.
  • Fellowship/Senior Fellowship of Higher Education Academy and/or academic teaching qualification.
  • Postgraduate academic qualifications (e.g., MSc, DDS, PhD, MClinDent).
Experience:
  • Substantial recent experience of leadership in a University Dental School setting.
  • Experience of teaching, clinical supervision, and assessment of dental students.
  • High-level written and verbal communication, including writing teaching material, delivering lectures, tutorials, and conference presentations.
  • Abilities to provide pastoral support to undergraduate and postgraduate students as a personal tutor.
  • Evidence of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience of developing and introducing new academic programmes.
  • Strong team building and motivational skills with evidence of successful delivery of change.
