SEN Teaching Assistant

About the RoleThis SEN Learning Support Assistant position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN). As a key member of our team, you will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to provide tailored assistance to students with SEN. Your role will involve creating a nurturing and effective learning environment that supports children to overcome barriers to learning and promotes their personal and academic growth.
Responsibilities- Work 1:1 and in groups with students who have SEN, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Collaborate with the class teacher to deliver tailored learning plans and adapt classroom activities to meet the needs of students with SEN.
- Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and independence.
- Monitor student progress and report back to the SENCO and teachers.
- Contribute to the implementation and review of IEPs and EHCPs.
- Provide personal care and support to students when needed.
- Work with other professionals to provide a holistic approach to supporting each child.
- Contribute to classroom management and create an inclusive learning environment.
- Experience working with children with SEN in a school setting or as a SEN support assistant.
- A relevant qualification in education, SEN, or child development.
- Knowledge of SEN support techniques, such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory play.
- Understanding of behaviour management strategies for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Experience working with students with physical disabilities or speech and language difficulties.
