Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to support Deaf students at a school in Central London. The ideal candidate will have BSL Level 1 or higher and experience in primary school settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Teacher of the Deaf, using a Total Communication approach to ensure Deaf pupils have full access to learning.
- Provide support in both mainstream classrooms and the Centre for the Deaf, assisting with learning, progress, and inclusion.
- Facilitate Deaf pupils' engagement with the curriculum and their participation in all learning activities.
- Encourage independence in learning and other aspects of school life.
Requirements:
- BSL Level 1 qualification or above.
- Experience in primary school settings.
- Understanding of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds, including those with sensory impairments and special educational needs.
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, and BSL).
- Ability to build strong professional relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Good organisational, time management, and ICT skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
