About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Principal Rail Design Engineer to join our team at ZipRecruiter. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of rail infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians to deliver high-quality designs and projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement design solutions for rail infrastructure projects, including temporary works and permanent structures.
  • Collaborate with clients and project teams to understand requirements and deliver design solutions that meet their needs.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and third-party checkers to ensure design solutions are accurate and compliant with industry standards.
  • Lead the design approval process with Network Rail and Highways England, and liaise with the internal team to develop engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to business development activities and aid in tender bids as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in designing underground structures and tunnelling temporary works.
  • Experience in a UK design consultancy environment, with strong team leadership capabilities.
  • Proven technical skill and competence in structural design skills and a sound geotechnical grounding.
  • Experience of undertaking the Network Rail CRE role, and equivalent responsible engineering role for Highways schemes, is beneficial.
  • A sound understanding of the CDM Health & Safety legislation and specifically Designer responsibility.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
