Linux Infrastructure Architect

The Linux Platform Engineering team at Millennium Management is responsible for architecting and engineering the cloud and on-premise Linux platforms that support the firm's compute workloads.

As a Senior Linux Engineer, you will work with various teams to enable engineers, quants, researchers, and developers to leverage the firm's Linux and related platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing systems efficiently at scale through standardization, automation, testing, and monitoring
  • Enforcing development standards for source control, testing, and continuous integration for infrastructure, OS, patches, and configuration management
  • Developing self-service pipelines for deploying infrastructure and platforms that developers and portfolio managers can integrate with
  • Working with business owners to re-prioritize the book of work and deliver both tactical and long-term objectives
  • Developing well-defined processes for testing and integrating new technologies to meet business and technical needs
  • Eliminating operational tasks through automation and self-service
  • Driving efficient utilization of resources through metrics and reporting

Qualifications and skills desired include:

  • Deep knowledge of Linux systems administration, networking, and security, including automated configuration and state management, and orchestration across systems
  • Experience working with configuration management driven administration using tools such as Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible
  • Experience working with containers and container services (e.g. Docker, Podman, Kubernetes) and familiarity with tools for testing and build automation
  • Experience working with bare metal servers and public cloud technologies, including AWS
  • Experience working with software-defined storage technologies and appliance-based storage technologies
  • Solid programming and scripting skills, with comfort and experience with BASH, Python, Ruby, Java, and C/C++
  • Deep understanding of Linux authentication and authorization mechanisms
  • Experience working on large collaborative software projects, including source control and SDLC strategies
  • Experience interfacing with REST APIs and developing REST APIs
  • Experience troubleshooting and performance tuning hardware and operating systems
  • Experience tuning systems for high throughput and low latency
  • Experience building and debugging kernels
