Department: Medicine for the Elderly and Stroke

Job Type: Fixed Term, Full Time (40 hours per week)

Location: Western General Hospital, Edinburgh

Requirements:

  • Full GMC Registration
  • A license to practise
  • Eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register

Candidates must have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-patient care for patients within the stroke unit
  • Contribute to the assessment and management of older people in the acute assessment frailty unit
  • Contribute to the weekday and weekend consultant on call rota for Medicine for the Elderly at the Western General Hospital

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic, supportive and motivated team of geriatricians and stroke physicians. There is opportunity to have a dedicated stroke outpatient clinic and flexibility within the job plan which can be tailored to the interest of applicants. For newly appointed consultants, there is the opportunity of mentorship offered by existing experienced and supportive consultant geriatricians.
