About the Role

The East Lancashire Alliance is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team as a Medicines Optimisation Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment, contributing to the improvement of patient care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the Clinical Pharmacist in the delivery of medicines optimisation services. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking patient-facing and patient-supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
• Carrying out medicines optimisation tasks, including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation.
• Working in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively, where required.
• Supporting the Clinical Pharmacist in Structured Medication Reviews (SMR), organising necessary monitoring tests prior to SMR, and providing expertise to address both public health and social care needs of patients.
• Managing shared care protocols and liaising with Clinical Pharmacists for more complex patients.
• Supporting initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing locally.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Computer literacy with an ability to use Microsoft Office packages and GP clinical systems.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to adjust communication style and content to suit the audience.
• Able to work effectively independently and as a member of a team, with a flexible approach to meet service needs and ensure a stakeholder-focused response.
