Head of Hardware Development

Top engineers are needed to join our partner company, a leading global engineering service provider, working closely with major players in Aerospace, Defence, Automotive, Tech, Energy, Healthcare, Medical Devices, Rail, and Semi-Conductor industries.
We are seeking an exceptional Hardware Engineering Manager to lead the team in a renowned Defence manufacturer on a permanent or contract basis. The role involves working on a hybrid schedule of 3 days a week at our Manchester office.
Position OverviewThe Hardware Engineering Manager will oversee the completion of engineering tasks within committed cost, schedule, performance, and quality requirements. This includes managing projects covering customer needs, mission, function, architectural design, and life cycle of hardware solutions.
- Creation and maintenance of the Hardware Engineering Management Plan (HEMP).
- Management of hardware engineering deliverables throughout the product lifecycle.
- Achievement of milestone delivery performance.
- Development of hardware engineering estimates for company bids.
- Ensuring engineering quality and performance.
- Establishing engineering governance, metrics, and reporting.
- Risk and opportunity identification and management.
The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership skills to operate effectively in a hybrid environment with a 3-day week on site.
You will be a self-starter who utilizes experience and knowledge to ensure hardware engineering activity aligns with constraints provided by Solution Engineering Managers and Solution and Hardware Architects.
A strong team ethos is required, involving not only the immediate team but also the wider business to achieve the best possible outcome and meet customer objectives within time, cost, and quality requirements.
Qualifications and Experience- Degree-level education in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Previous leadership/management role in Hardware Engineering.
The estimated salary for this position is around £70,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
