Laboratory Technician – Media Preparation Specialist

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the GEE Department and work closely with the multi-user Fly Media Preparation Facility. As a key technician, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical provision, media preparation, and administrative support. Your role will involve producing large volumes of nutrient-rich fly food media and processing the required glassware. Continuation of essential Drosophila melanogaster research relies on the dependable service you will provide. To deliver this, you must be reliable, adaptable, and have excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To be the key technician ensuring the smooth running of the Fly Media Preparation Facility.
- To accurately follow specific recipes to fulfill orders of essential media, in large volumes (up to 45 L).
- To manage demand and ensure all media orders are completed in a timely manner.
- To monitor resource usage and maintain supplies of key ingredients and consumables.
- To be responsible for processing large amounts of glassware and fly media culture waste.
About You
We are looking for a motivated, organised, and reliable individual who thrives in a dynamic team. Ideally, you will have an A-level in biology or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject. Previous experience working in a technical role would be an advantage. You will understand the importance of research and how your work impacts the continuation of critical experiments.
