About the Role

The Principal Examiner is a critical position at Pearson, responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of our assessment processes. As a Senior Assessment Associate, you will play a key role in maintaining the standards of our externally assessed units, modules, and components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the standardization of moderators to ensure consistency in assessment marking.
  • Lead meetings such as pre-standardization and standardization, and participate in others like appeals against results and post-series reviews.
  • Mark an allocation of live candidates' responses to quality assure as part of a supervisory role.
  • Prepare and collate materials for standardization and assessment.
  • Support supervisors and Examiners in their roles.
  • Sample supervisors/Examiners' initial marking via an accompanied visit and provide feedback.
  • Monitor progress of supervisors/Examiners and act as a senior point of escalation across the quality assurance process.
  • Undertake at least two allocated Examination visits.
  • Ensure all Examiner marks and reports are submitted via the appropriate Pearson system by the stated deadline.
  • Monitor and report to the Assessment team after standardization and completion of marking.
  • Support in awarding activities by writing reports to the Awarding Committee, recommending grade boundaries, and participating in awarding activities.
  • Complete the Senior Assessment Associate review process, reflecting on your own challenges and successes, and attend a follow-up meeting with the assessment team.
  • Submit reports on the series/candidate performance.
  • Provide support and written responses to complaints as required.

Requirements

  • Experience and knowledge of quality assurance and assessment practice.
  • History of moderation and/or marking a regulated qualification.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to provide and coordinate training such as standardization and other standards-related activities.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the specification for your specialist sector, including internal and external requirements.

Desirable

  • High level of IT proficiency.
  • Leadership experience in delivering qualifications.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and requirements.
  • Report writing within a regulated industry.

Experience and Qualifications

Vocational Qualifications (BTEC/FS)

  • A minimum of one full academic year of teaching experience in the relevant subject area/sector within the last 8 years and/or extensive knowledge and experience in Pearson assessment, quality, and processes and national standards within the last 5 years.
  • Relevant CPD evidence in the subject area/sector within the last 12 months.
  • A UK recognized teaching qualification.
