Job Summary

As a Senior Clinical Nurse Leader at NHS Blood and Transplant, you will be responsible for leading and motivating a team of Healthcare Assistants and Donor Care Supervisors to deliver high-quality care to our donors. You will use your clinical expertise to assess donor suitability and ensure the safe running of blood donation sessions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Take clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of our donors.
  • Be accountable for the safe running of a blood donation session.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring an excellent donor experience.
  • Maintain the competency and skills of your team and yourself.
  • Be able to adapt communication styles for difficult conversations.
  • Maintain your professional development to help us deliver improvements to our practice.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and understand the principles of best practice to deliver high-quality care.
  • Have experience of supporting the professional development of others.
  • Have an understanding of clinical audit and research.
  • Have experience of supporting improvements and change in practice.
  • Have an awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.
  • Have experience of working with Information Technology such as hand-held devices and Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse – Adult.
  • Hold a full and valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points (check if applicable).

Working Hours

On a shift basis, with normal hours rostered between 5 days per week / 10 days per fortnight. Early shifts start at 07:45 and finish at 17:00, and late shifts start at 10:30 and finish at 21:00, with 9.38 hour days. This role is mainly late shifts.

The working days are Monday – Friday, weekends off (excluding Bank Holidays). Weekend and bank holiday working will be required.
