Lead Consultant Clinical Scientist (Genomics) Opportunity

The NHS is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Consultant Clinical Scientist to join our team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. As a key member of the East Genomics Laboratory Hub, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic and clinical scientific leadership for the Local Genomics Laboratory Service.

Key responsibilities include planning, organizing, and implementing a National Genomics service, focusing on areas such as rare and inherited diseases, cancer, and haematological malignancy. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient and innovative genomic services, ensuring adherence to National Genomic Test Directory standards.

The successful candidate will have significant experience as a Senior Clinical Scientist within a Genomics laboratory, with expertise in service development and implementation, quality management systems, and complex genomic test results analysis. You will also have experience in providing consultative advice to clinical colleagues and staff about the investigation, diagnosis, and understanding of genetic diseases.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who can lead our team and contribute to the development of our Genomics service. If you have a passion for genomics and a strong background in clinical science, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on genomic test selection and interpretation, especially in complex cases.
  • Develop investigative strategies for rare diseases and cancer.
  • Communicate clinical advice to patients and staff.
  • Ensure the validity of genomic reports and stay updated with genomics research.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent level of experience in a subject relevant to genomics.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathology FRCPath in an appropriate discipline.
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.
  • Advanced specialist scientific and clinical knowledge in the diagnostic field of genomics.
  • Leadership/management Qualification or equivalent level of experience.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position with flexible working arrangements, including home or remote working and compressed hours.
