International Student Advisor

Job Summary:

The International Student Advisor - Global Engagement will provide critical support to international students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). This role will serve as a liaison between WPI and international students, ensuring a seamless experience for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage international student data, ensuring accurate and timely updates in Workday, ISSM, and Terra Dotta.

  • Serve as an advisor to WPI's undergraduate and graduate international student populations, providing immigration advice and guidance on various topics, including travel signatures, I-20 forms, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and more.

  • Advise and counsel international students on cross-cultural, financial, and personal matters, facilitating connections with other offices on campus.

  • Participate in Division of Student Affairs activities and serve on division or campus-wide committees as needed.

  • Remain up-to-date on international student issues and changing government regulations.

  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the international student community.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in international relations, international education, or a related field.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a related field.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of immigration regulations and a working knowledge of SEVIS is expected upon completion of appropriate training.

  • Proficiency with technology, including departmental immigration software programs (e.g. SEVIS, ISSM, Terra Dotta) and Zoom/Teams.

  • Knowledge of a foreign language and international experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, and a strong commitment to DEI.

  • Knowledge of current research and issues in international education is preferred.

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident to serve as a DSO in the SEVIS system.
