Newsreader / Broadcaster

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced journalist to join our team as a weekend newsreader at BBC Radio Newcastle.

As a key member of our news team, you will be responsible for compiling and presenting our hourly weekend news bulletins, with some weekday working.

You will need to have a strong broadcast voice, excellent writing skills, and the ability to summarize complex issues calmly and clearly under significant time pressure.

In addition to your newsreading skills, we are looking for someone who can come up with original story ideas, guests, and creative treatments, and carry out background research.

The role requires someone who is keen to do more than just look for press releases – we want original and inclusive ideas that help reflect the diverse audience of Newcastle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Compiling and presenting our hourly weekend news bulletins
• Responding to breaking news with the ability to summarize complex issues calmly and clearly under significant time pressure
• Coming up with original story ideas, guests, and creative treatments, and carrying out background research
