Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in a fast-paced utilities company. This role is vital in ensuring our financial operations run smoothly and accurately.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Management: Prepare and process payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely payment to all employees.
  • PAYE and NI Compliance: Assist with PAYE and National Insurance actions, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Subcontractor Payments: Process payments for subcontractors, verifying invoices, and managing CIS deductions where applicable.
  • VAT and Tax Filings: Support in preparing VAT returns, tax filings, and reconciling accounts to maintain compliance with financial regulations.
  • General Ledger Support: Maintain accurate records in the general ledger, including data entry and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Administrative Support: Provide ad-hoc support to the finance team, including file management and responding to financial queries.

The estimated salary for this role is around £25,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Requirements:
  • Qualifications: AAT qualified or studying towards an accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience: Previous experience in an accounting role, ideally within utilities, construction, or a similar industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with payroll and tax software is advantageous. Previous experience of the COINS software would also be an advantage.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Communication Skills: Able to effectively communicate with team members, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
