Job Title: Environmental Sustainability Specialist

Location: Flexible working arrangements available.

Job Summary:

As an Environmental Sustainability Specialist, you will be responsible for gathering, assessing, and reporting environmental information to support the environmental case for each submarine. This includes supporting system owners with design, undertaking environmental impact and risk assessments, collating evidence, and producing documents to support the environmental case. You will also engage with stakeholders across organizations and disciplines to ensure customer requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support system owners with design of systems.
  2. Undertake environmental impact and risk assessments.
  3. Collate evidence and produce documents to support the environmental case.
  4. Support net zero and carbon management/foot printing activities.
  5. Engage with stakeholders across organizations and disciplines.


Requirements:

Essential:
  • Understanding of sustainability and environmental requirements in product design.
  • Understanding of environmental assessment and identification of environmental aspects across the lifecycle.
  • Ability to evaluate environmental and technical data.
  • Understanding of net zero and carbon management/foot printing.
  • Report writing/presentation skills and ability to effectively convey environmental information.
  • Degree or equivalent in Environmental or Sustainability related discipline.


Desirable:
  • Broad understanding of one or more of the following: Environmental Management Systems, Materials Technology, Environmental Legislation, Disposal, and/or Net Zero.
  • Defence experience.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Product Environmental Team, an ever-growing area within the business. You will be joining a small team of 7 members and supporting both SSNA and Dreadnought Programmes. You will engage with System owners, legislation team, sustainability department, as well as customers. Within this role, there will be opportunities for further training and career progression.
