Job Description

The position of Senior Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust presents an exciting opportunity to lead a team in providing high-quality care to individuals with learning disabilities and forensic needs.

This part-time role involves working collaboratively with the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) to deliver preventative, reactive, and evidence-based interventions. The successful candidate will possess expertise in assessing and treating individuals with learning disability and autism, as well as experience in treating those with forensic needs.

A key aspect of this role is ensuring robust multi-agency involvement to guarantee public and community safety. The SCFT offers a comprehensive service, incorporating highly skilled specialist nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Support Workers, Social Workers, and Psychologists. This position requires close working relationships with Cheshire and Merseyside Learning Disability services and Mersey Care Forensic LD services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Fulfilling Community Responsible Clinician responsibilities for patients accepted into the service
  • Providing outpatient or community clinics and home visits, participating in regular MDT meetings, CPA reviews, MAPPA, safeguarding, risk reviews, and clinical leadership and Responsible Clinician roles
  • Delivering offence-specific therapeutic interventions and ensuring the safe management of patients on their caseload

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge. They will also possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English and have knowledge of alternatives to inpatient admission care approaches.

This role requires flexible working arrangements, with a minimum of 6 sessions per week. A valid UK driving license is desirable, although alternative arrangements can be made for non-drivers due to disability.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is £105,504 - £139,882 per annum, pro rata, plus a 10% R&R payment. As a Senior Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within six months of gaining CCT. You will also be required to have CCT in Psychiatry.
