Calderdale Council is seeking a Highway Engineering Project Manager to join our Strategic Infrastructure Directorate. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the application of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and adherence to the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) in maintaining and enhancing the safety and functionality of our road network.

We're looking for two Senior Highway Engineers in our Traffic Team to join our Strategic Infrastructure Directorate here at Calderdale Council. You will be joining us at an exciting time as we grow and improve the service through an unprecedented level of investment.

Job Description

This role involves taking responsibility for the drafting, implementation, and reviewing of TROs, contributing to the progression towards map-based orders, ensuring all traffic signage and road markings comply with TSRGD guidelines, collaborating with planning and enforcement teams, developing and applying effective traffic regulation strategies, enhancing road safety, managing traffic flow, and supporting community needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A competent Highway engineering professional with a background in Traffic, Transport, Highways or related field.
  • A relevant Degree related to the Construction & Built Environment (e.g., Civil Engineering) or similar relevant working experience.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.
  • You might be a member of a professional body such as ICE / IHE /IStructE but this is not essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of preparing Traffic Regulation Orders, Speed Limit Orders and Parking Place Orders.
  • Experience of designing Highway Engineering projects and experience of DMRB.
  • Understanding of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and specialist traffic and highways add-ons such as KeyLINES / AutoTURN would be an advantage.
  • Project management, organisation, budget management and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of local authority or public sector procurement processes and regulations would be an advantage.
Salary

The salary for this role is expected to be around £46,464 per annum, rising incrementally up to the top of the band at Grade P012. Benefits include flexible working, a highly competitive pension scheme, extensive training and development, and a range of employee benefits.
