Job Description

Leonardo is seeking a skilled Test Engineer to join our team in Southampton, UK. As a key member of our test engineering team, you will be responsible for the specification, design, procurement, manufacture, verification, and evaluation of test equipment with supporting documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret product test requirements to define a test strategy and plan, including the development of test systems and work packages.
  • Generate, coordinate, and execute work packages from bid to project completion, ensuring cost, quality, and time targets are met.
  • Build, commission, and verify new test solutions, including optical, thermal, and electronic components, as well as test software.
  • Develop and test products with an understanding of environmental stress screening and production lifespan.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including user instructions, and support test system-related issues in production.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics (or equivalent).
  • Experience in one or more areas: Electrical test, Semiconductor physics, Electro-optics, Cryogenics, and Vacuum technology.
  • Ability to assimilate and apply technical information to design tasks and problem-solving.
  • Practical laboratory test, diagnostic, and measurement experience, including electro-optical instrumentation.
  • Good organisation, planning, and execution of work, with attention to detail and ability to work closely in a team.
  • Good communication and customer liaison skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Test software experience, C++, LabView, or similar.
  • Experience of soldering surface mount components.
  • Experience of mechanical design.
  • Experience of using industry-standard ECAD tools.
  • Understanding of how the operating environment influences the design.

Working Arrangements:

This is a hybrid working role, with a primary location in Southampton, UK.
