Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Welder - Fabrication Specialist to join our team at THWAITES LIMITED. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for welding steel components using Mig welding techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Weld steel components using Mig welding process to assemble fabricated steel products in an efficient manner to maximize production.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner and report hazards associated with the equipment or its operations to the Welding Shop Supervisor.
  • Produce strong penetrated welds that are smooth, non-porous and consistent.
  • Follow required procedures and use appropriate jigs and fixtures to assist in the assembly process.
  • Maintain and produce a level of output that will minimize production delays.
  • Clean and maintain an orderly work area.
  • Communicate effectively with other workers in the process workflow.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Mig welding process and equipment.
  • Ability to weld vertical, flat with good penetration and a high-quality appearance.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Physical ability to work and weld in awkward positions such as kneeling, lying down and overhead.
  • Ability to climb and work from a ladder or platform.
  • Ability to operate hand-held tools, sanders and grinders.
  • Experience in the using overhead cranes.
  • Not essential, but the ability to use oxy acetylene cutting equipment.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • MIG welding experience in mild steel.
  • Welding and fabrication apprenticeship preferred.
  • Good communication skills.
  • An understanding of SOPs.
  • Good time management.
  • Experience of working in a production led environment.
