The Rivers and Estuaries Branch is seeking an experienced Environmental Management Specialist to join their team. This role will play a crucial part in the development of locality plans, assessment, and administration of applications under the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006.

About the Role

As an Environmental Management Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating responses to applications referred to the Trust under the Metropolitan Region Scheme. You will also assess major development proposals within and adjoining the Swan Canning Development Control Area, preparing reports and recommendations on complex planning issues and applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake strategic planning and policy development, including the preparation of locality plans;
  • Coordinate the assessment and administration of applications made under Part 5 of the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006 and the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Regulations 2007;
  • Coordinate the Swan River Trust's (the Trust's) responses to applications referred to the Trust under the Metropolitan Region Scheme;
  • Assess major development proposals within and adjoining the Swan Canning Development Control Area, preparing reports and recommendations on complex planning issues and applications;
  • Advises, negotiates, and liaises with Government organisations, the development industry, proponents of development, and the public on planning matters related to the Swan Canning river system.
Requirements
  • A degree qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or an approved equivalent qualification OR a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline or an approved equivalent qualification;
  • Substantial experience in urban and regional planning and environmental management;
  • Conceptual and analytical ability, including the ability to critically analyse information and concepts and communicate recommendations to others;
  • Excellent written communication skills, including demonstrated skills in technical and other report writing;
  • Highly developed oral communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, and interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team environment, lead a work team, and mentor others.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary package estimated at $118,325 - $130,458 per annum, plus 11% superannuation. Our organisation values diversity and promotes flexible working arrangements to ensure that all employees can thrive and contribute to our mission.

This is a fixed-term position, initially for 12 months, but with potential for extension or permanency. The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current national police check prior to commencement.
