Project Manager - Defence Contracts (South of England)

Location: South East England (Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire, Middlesex, Buckinghamshire, South Oxfordshire)

Rate: £450 - £550 per day (depending on experience)

Contract Type: Contract, 6 months with the possibility of extension

Working Hours: Mon to Fri, 08:00 - 18:00 (with some flexibility for travel and occasional overnight stays)

We are seeking experienced Project Managers with a background in Construction Project Management to join our team working on Ministry of Defence (MoD) contracts across the South East Region.

The role will primarily involve managing all aspects of pre-construction activities, operating within RIBA Stages 0-4, and handling projects from requirements gathering to contract negotiation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate tasks at the requirements stage.
  • Support the production of Rough Order of Costs and deliverability assessments.
  • Validate project scopes and produce specification documents/Statements of Work (SOW).
  • Organise and procure on-site surveys, feasibility studies, and early design work.
  • Obtain design approvals, prepare document packs, and manage the tender process through to completion.
  • Prepare Firm Price submission documents for DIO approval.
  • Handover completed projects to the delivery PM team for construction management.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Proven experience in managing Ministry of Defence/DIO contracts or similar regulated environments (e.g., Nuclear, Highways, MoJ, NHS).
  • Strong knowledge of the RIBA stage plan, particularly pre-construction activities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage high volumes of information.
  • Experience with design and tender evaluation, including familiarity with NRM pricing.
  • Chartered membership in Construction, Engineering, Facilities, or Project Management, or equivalent qualifications (e.g., MCIOB, M/AssocRICS, MAPM, MCIAT, Prince 2, NEBOSH, IOSH, APM, PMP).

Requirements:

  • Valid SC Clearance is preferred (BPSS clearance will be required before commencement).
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle are essential due to frequent travel across MoD estates.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining focus on quality and deadlines.
  • Availability to start immediately, subject to security clearance.
