The Opportunity

Leonardo is a global leader in electronic and information technologies for defence systems, aerospace, data, infrastructures, land security and protection, and sustainable 'smart' solutions.

We are looking for an Electronics Design Engineer to contribute to the development of products and their associated test solutions.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation.

This role would suit either an early careers engineer looking to further enhance their skills in an interesting and technically challenging industry, or a more experienced engineer looking to expand their skillset and work on high performance products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on a mixture of product development and supporting test hardware.
  • Requirement capture, schematic capture and PCB Layout, circuit simulation, driving the design review process and collaborating with other engineering functions and manufacturing.
  • Designing and implementing all necessary design verification tests and supporting documentation required to allow your new designs to transition into production.
  • Working with specialist technologies relating to Infrared Detectors, including electro-optic test benches, black bodies and lasers.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering (preferable) or related science (e.g. Physics) with preferably some specialisation in electronic techniques.
  • Analogue circuit design experience.
  • Experience of PCB development tools and process.
  • Experience of DFx (designing for cost, test and manufacturability).
  • Experience in System level and sub-system integration and debug.
  • Electro-Optics experience beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Matlab and Simulink would be beneficial.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of device drivers and communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, USB, Camera Link).
  • Experience of hardware design using FPGA components.
  • Experience in designing with video bandwidth op-amps for low noise applications and Analogue to Digital converters.
  • Experience in undertaking component selection and de-rating analysis.
  • Ability to work to recognised standards, such as MIL-STD and IPC-610 specifications.
  • Practical soldering/workshop skills.
