Job Summary:

GSL Education - London is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Academic Excellence to lead our Philosophy and Ethics Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive curriculum that promotes critical thinking, academic excellence, and holistic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Philosophy and Ethics curriculum that engages students with thought-provoking content and encourages critical thinking across various belief systems and ethical frameworks.
  • Provide leadership in delivering high-quality, innovative teaching strategies that make philosophical, religious, and ethical studies accessible and engaging for all students.
  • Guide and mentor students in their academic and personal growth, fostering a deep understanding of diverse perspectives and ethical reasoning, and preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits.
  • Department Management: Lead and support a team of educators within the Philosophy and Ethics department, ensuring the delivery of a coherent and well-structured educational experience.
  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of current developments in Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics, integrating new ideas and methodologies into the department's teaching practices, and participating in continuous professional development.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic direction of the department and the wider school, ensuring that Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics remain integral to the educational experience.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or a related field. PGCE, QTS) for secondary education.
  • Demonstrable experience teaching Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics at the secondary level, with a track record of leadership or management within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of the national curriculum for Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics, and effective assessment methods.
  • A deep understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with an enhanced DBS on the update service.
