Health and Safety Officer Opportunity

Following an internal restructure, we are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team at the UK Fire and Rescue Service.

This is a varied and challenging role that requires sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice guidance. As a Health and Safety Officer, you will be an integral member of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team, providing competent health and safety advice, guidance, and support to staff at all levels of the organisation.

The successful candidate will have previous advisory experience within an organisation and be able to assist in the development and maintenance of the RBFRS Health and Safety Management System. They will also undertake and develop risk assessments, provide competent advice and guidance, and represent the department in organisational projects and activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of the RBFRS Health and Safety Management System
  • Undertaking and developing risk assessments
  • Providing competent advice and guidance on health and safety matters
  • Representing the department in organisational projects and activities
  • Maintaining and analysing data and producing monthly and ad hoc reports
  • Writing and reviewing internal health and safety policies and documentation
  • Undertaking and contributing to H&S projects

Requirements include a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent, and at least one year's previous health and safety advisory experience within an organisation. Excellent written communication skills, including reports and policy, are also essential.
