Gloucester, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom James Hopkins Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Care Support Specialist to become a vital member of our Care Team. As a natural caregiver, you possess experience in working with children and a keen interest in enhancing your understanding of complex additional needs while delivering nurse-led care. You take immense pride in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Your role involves collaborating closely with Registered Nurses and Play Leaders to manage the daily activities of our respite sessions. This includes developing engaging activities, ensuring meticulous family-centered care and documentation, and proactively creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating atmosphere for the children.

What sets you apart is your commitment to crafting memorable experiences for families. Whether through small gestures of kindness or organizing enjoyable family events, you consistently go above and beyond to ensure that everyone enjoys a fulfilling experience. You are curious about innovative approaches to creativity and play for children with severe disabilities and complex nursing needs, and you embrace new ideas with enthusiasm. Above all, you are a compassionate and empathetic individual with exceptional communication skills.

Main Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a passion for creating magical moments for the families and children we support, whether through simple acts of kindness or organizing engaging events.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proactively prepare children's areas and set up stimulating activities prior to each session.
  • Exhibit a genuine interest in creativity and play for children and young people with severe disabilities and complex nursing needs.
  • Possess experience working with children and young people.
  • Understand the significance of confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Be comfortable performing personal care tasks and willing to undertake some clinical responsibilities.
  • Be available for shift work during weekdays and weekends, including both term and non-term periods.
  • Show a willingness to participate in relevant training for the role.
  • Exhibit flexibility and adaptability in various tasks to maintain high standards throughout the facility.
  • Be a self-motivated team player, eager to work creatively and explore new methods to enhance the care and respite experience for families.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a caring, empathetic demeanor.

About Our Organization

We take pride in providing free nursing respite care to numerous life-limited and life-threatened young children and their families. As the only registered charity in our region offering this level of care, we operate both in family homes and at our specialized respite center.

Our team is committed to supporting your professional development, offering training in clinical skills such as enteral feeding and suctioning, as well as adapting play sessions to ensure all children can engage in new activities and develop their skills. We prioritize a supportive work-life balance and foster a collaborative environment with exceptional adult-to-child ratios.

Join us in creating unforgettable memories for families and children in need.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the nursing team, you will support life-limited, life-threatened, and severely disabled children and their families. Under the guidance of the Nursing Management team and Play Leaders, you will assist in play activities while also supporting respite nurses to provide care in partnership with the child and family. Your approach will be sensitive and professional, ensuring that the emotional, social, and physical needs of the children are met in alignment with our organization's vision and values.

In this role, you will participate in child-friendly activities, maintain documentation, and deliver structured family-centered care during our regulated respite sessions. Your proactive and enthusiastic contributions will enhance the overall performance of the team, ensuring that the needs of the children are met and continuity of care is prioritized.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff to share this commitment.
