About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatician to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As a key member of our Genomics of Inflammation and Immunity Group, you will play a central role in a substantial research programme using high-throughput genetics and genomics to further our biological understanding of immune-mediated diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead key analyses and develop new tools to optimize and automate existing pipelines for genetic and phenotypic data.
  • Collaborate with the team to design, undertake, and scale pilot analyses, and implement the integration of all genetic and phenotypic data.
  • Ensure data security and handle queries from external users of our data.
  • Drive the ascertainment of external datasets and ensure they are documented and aligned appropriately to internal datasets.
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific research papers.
About You
  • A degree or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Life Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience handling large-scale genetic/genomic data.
  • Experience working with relational databases and programming languages to manipulate large datasets.
  • Experience working in Unix in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Experience using version control platforms and creating and managing large-scale data analysis pipelines.
  • A collaborative approach to research and ability to mentor junior scientists.
