Mechanical Design Engineer

A Mechanical Design Engineer is required to join an International Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world-leading military systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and engineering of various projects, working as part of the Engineering Team to develop project technical requirements, produce concept design solutions, and generate and update 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Action engineering and design activities, including supporting product development.
- Work within the Engineering policies and processes.
- Support customer visits and technical meetings, as well as Operations, Projects, Procurement, and Quality.
- Collaborate with other areas of the business, particularly manufacturing, quality, and operations.
- Deliver design activities assigned to the Design Engineer.
- Work with the Design Engineering Team to create, update, and control 3D CAD models.
- Contribute to the creation of 2D technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Work accurately in a data management system within a configuration-controlled environment.
- Work within defined safety standards and testing processes and methodologies.
- Progress documentation and engineering change control processes.
- Carry out engineering calculations to support design proposals.
- Present and communicate designs and design changes.
- Contribute to internal design reviews and support prototype build and test activities.
Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent combination of experience and training in mechanical or related discipline.
- Good command of mechanical engineering fundamentals in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong team player with ability to produce high-quality output with attention to detail.
- Knowledge and experience in design, design analysis, verification, and validation.
- Support techniques such as CAD, FEA, FMECA, DFM to ensure manufacturing engineering and quality.
- Knowledge and experience in PDM and ERP software.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide and obtain a UK SC clearance.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and education.
- UK driving licence and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant UK professional body preferred.
- Experience in design/manufacturing environment and experience of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD.
- Experience of hydraulics and high-pressure oil and gas sealing technologies.
- Familiarity with multinational projects subject to US ITAR and UK export legislation.
