Composite Materials Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Composite Trimmers/Fitters to join our team at Matchtech. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for accurately trimming and fitting pre-formed composite components using hand tools, jigs, and power tools, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and tolerances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trimming and Fitting: Accurately trim and fit pre-formed composite components using hand tools, jigs, and power tools, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Surface Finishing: Carry out surface preparation such as sanding, cutting, polishing, and finishing of composite materials to achieve the desired surface quality.
- Assembly: Assemble composite parts into sub-assemblies or full vehicle builds, ensuring correct fit, alignment, and functionality of components.
- Bonding and Sealing: Apply adhesives and bonding agents for the secure joining of composite materials. Ensure proper sealing of components where required.
- Quality Inspection: Inspect finished parts for defects, including surface finish, fit, and structural integrity. Correct any minor imperfections and report major issues to the supervisor.
- Tool Maintenance: Maintain all tools and equipment used in the trimming and fitting process, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
- Health and Safety: Follow all health and safety guidelines, particularly those relevant to working with composite materials such as carbon fiber or fiberglass, and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaboration: Work closely with production engineers, quality control teams, and other departments to ensure parts meet quality standards and deadlines.
Requirements:
- Proven Experience: Proven experience in trimming and fitting automotive composite materials, preferably in a high-performance or motorsport environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (e.g., verniers, micrometers).
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
- Physical Demands: High attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
Working Conditions:
- Production Environment: Ability to work in a production environment with exposure to materials such as carbon fiber, resins, and bonding agents.
- Lifting and Handling: May require lifting and handling of lightweight composite components.
- Overtime and Weekend Work: Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to meet production deadlines.
