About the Role

Wayman Learning Trust is seeking a highly skilled and passionate SEN Art Teacher to join their dynamic team at an inclusive secondary school in Hackney. As an experienced educator, you will play a pivotal role in inspiring and supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) through the medium of art, helping them to express themselves, develop their creative skills, and build confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver creative and engaging art lessons tailored to meet the needs of SEN students, ensuring that all learners can access the curriculum and develop their artistic skills.
  • Work closely with the SEN department to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), adapting lesson plans and teaching techniques to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Utilize a range of inclusive teaching strategies, including visual aids, hands-on activities, and sensory learning tools, to create lessons that are accessible and enjoyable for all students.
  • Foster an environment of creativity, encouraging students to express themselves through art while developing their confidence, self-esteem, and social skills.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and feedback, tracking student progress, and ensuring that their artistic and personal development is nurtured.
  • Collaborate with classroom support staff, including teaching assistants and SEN specialists, to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students during lessons.
  • Work with parents and carers to provide regular updates on student progress and address any concerns or additional needs that may arise.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives to promote the importance of the arts and creativity in education, contributing to cross-curricular projects and art displays.
About You

We are looking for a qualified teacher with a specialization in Art or a related subject, who has experience working with SEN students, preferably in a secondary school setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for inclusive education, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive, patient, and creative approach to teaching.
