Mapping Technologist

The Adirondack Park Agency is seeking a highly skilled Mapping Technologist 3 to join our team. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for managing computer-based cartographic information, developing and maintaining Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and performing photogrammetry-related tasks.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and maintain GIS and cartographic information systems
- Develop and implement procedures for incorporating new technology and software into the mapping program
- Represent the mapping functional group at state, regional, and local meetings
- Supervise subordinate staff and contract staff, including interns
- Develop and maintain computer-based cartographic information systems tools and procedures
- Perform project-based error analysis of mapping data
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, including or supplemented by 21 semester credit hours in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, cartography, and/or photogrammetry
- Three years of professional experience making recommendations and decisions relating to the selection, planning, and production of mapping projects and independent research and evaluation activities
- Experience limited to Computer Aided Design (CAD) use or GIS user production of thematic overlays to such base maps or to generate system-produced GIS maps will NOT be considered as appropriate experience
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience with GIS software and programming languages
- Knowledge of cartographic principles and practices
The Mapping Technologist 3 will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
