Porter Position at Spire Healthcare

We are seeking a skilled Porter to join our team at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. The successful candidate will work as a multi-skilled member of the service team, providing high-level support to the hospital with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and deliver items needed by the hospital from/to other hospitals or facilities.
  • Provide a taxi service to patients and Spire executive staff.
  • Deliver blood units to Theatres and Ward, following local working instructions.
  • Clean, wash, and refuel the company car.
  • Undertake portering duties to agreed standards and procedures, including transportation of patients/goods/sets/equipment/linen/medical gases, clinical/general waste, mail distribution, general cleaning, and security duties.
  • Collect and return patients to and from theatres/ward/short stay suite/imaging department.
  • Set up and dismantle tables and chairs in the restaurant for functions.
  • Carry out tasks from the weekend jobs list.
  • Retrieve medical records from external storage when medical records staff are not on duty.
  • Deliver morning papers to patients and internal departments.
  • Order linen on designated days and order from BOC when required via pharmacy.
  • Participate in porters meetings and keep up to date with information in the porters folder.
  • Clear waste from theatres department and dispose of it in designated areas, liaising with CSSD for clinical waste collection and disposal.
  • Collect pre-ordered meals for consultants and staff, and take to theatre rest room.
  • Maintain theatre lounge supplies, including plastic cups, tea, coffee, and milk.
  • Manage linen collection, distribution, and storage, including theatre caps and masks.
  • Monitor and maintain stocks of fluids daily, including saline, water, and stock in warming cabinets.
  • Check and record blood fridge disc and alarm daily.

Requirements:

  • Able to adopt a flexible attitude towards duties, which may be varied subject to departmental needs.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Happy to perform manual handling duties, including moving beds and furniture.
