Senior Technical Manager

As a Senior Technical Manager at WSP, you will play a critical role in supporting the Head of Technical and ensuring Statutory, Regulatory, and Technical compliance in the delivery of Project and Client requirements.
You will deputise for the Head of Technical Services in their absence and manage the day-to-day activities of the Technical Manager team to support business needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist engineering and technical support and advice to Project Delivery, Inspection, and Quality Management teams and clients, where necessary.
- Supporting the technical competence of Quality Services staff at planned intervals and providing technical mentoring, coaching, and advice, where necessary.
- Supporting inspection staff in ensuring they are suitably qualified and experienced to perform allocated work scopes.
- Undertaking, supporting (and leading, when necessary), and coordinating technical investigations in support of client activities, where necessary.
- Supporting the promotion of continuous improvement within Quality Services to develop the effectiveness and efficiency of delivery and execution processes.
- Line management (including performance management) of Quality Services Technical Managers.
- Reviewing, providing comment, and approving technical procedures for the inspection programme.
- Undertaking competence assurance reviews of Inspection Body staff and suppliers.
- Undertaking quality/surveillance inspections, assessing activities, and reviewing outputs during periods of peak operational activity.
- Supporting Proposals Teams and Project Delivery teams by providing input to prequalification and tender proposals.
- Supporting and promoting the implementation of and adherence to WSP UK BMS policies and procedures within Quality Services, including those relating to Health, Safety, and Wellbeing, and Human Resources.
- Reviewing Inspection Body Quality Reports and providing feedback that identifies areas for improvement.
Requirements include:
- Demonstrable working experience in a similar engineering role.
- Extensive, practical experience, and qualifications in a specialist technical subject that support the business unit.
- Working experience and qualifications in a specialist engineering discipline.
- Experience of managing a team of multi-discipline technical staff on complex, large-scale projects.
- A good understanding of implementation and management of Quality Management Systems and standards relevant to the role.
- Experience and training in using root cause analysis methodology.
