Job Overview

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Respiratory Physiotherapist to join our team. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing high-quality care to patients with complex respiratory needs.

Main Duties
  • Manage a varied caseload of acute respiratory patients, including those ventilated, on NIV, on Optiflow, and with tracheostomies.
  • Lead the early rehabilitation of critically unwell patients in ICU and assess and treat respiratory patients on the wards.
  • Support the development of ward-based MDT skills in acute respiratory management, Optiflow, NIV, tracheostomy management, and the new Intensive Care Step Down Service.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy and membership of the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Substantial relevant post-registration experience as a Senior Physiotherapist, including experience in respiratory physiotherapy for patients with multi-pathologies and complex needs.
  • Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HCPC recommendations, and experience of working as part of a team multiprofessionally or in an agency setting.
Skills and Knowledge

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy in the relevant setting, including ICU, tracheostomy, and respiratory care.
  • Specialist clinical skills in emergency and community settings.
  • Able to keep accurate and legible patient notes, and demonstrate understanding and previous participation in activities to support the clinical governance agenda.
  • Ability to remain calm and controlled during stressful situations and with emotional or aggressive patients/carers.
