About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Weed Management Specialist to join our Farming Systems and Agronomy Research team at NIAB.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering research on the biology and management of key UK weed species within combinable crops and arable rotations.

Key duties include:

  • Leading and managing research projects and commercial contract services with a focus on weed biology, crop/weed interactions, and weed management.
  • Preparing and submitting proposals to develop new areas of research that bring value to NIAB's mission.
  • Developing a programme of applied research and knowledge exchange in crop-weed interactions, weed ecology, and management underpinning sustainable cropping systems.

The role will involve working closely with our team of Research Agronomists and Crop Specialists to share specialist technical and scientific knowledge, internally and externally, on the agronomy of combinable crops and arable rotations.

Requirements

  • Experience in a research/technical role in agricultural systems/inputs R&D, particularly weed biology/ecology, crop/weed interactions, and weed management.
  • Good organisational and planning skills, able to prioritise and organise time and work tasks.
  • Postgraduate qualification related to crops or agronomy.
  • Experience in project and financial management.
  • A driving licence, as frequent travel by car to farms/trials sites across Great Britain is a key part of the role.

We are a leading research centre for crop science and agronomy, providing a range of technical services and training for the agricultural industry.

Our Farming Systems and Agronomy Research team generates, collates, and provides specialist technical and scientific knowledge, internally to NIAB and externally to a range of clients, on the agronomy of combinable crops and arable rotations.
