Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal/Associate Ecologist to join our team in the UK. As a key member of our ecology team, you will be responsible for leading and managing complex ecological projects, developing and implementing ecological mitigation projects, and working closely with clients to deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage complex ecological projects, including permitted development and large infrastructure projects
  • Develop and implement ecological mitigation projects, including habitat creation and enhancement
  • Work closely with clients to deliver high-quality results and meet their sustainability goals
  • Conduct ecological fieldwork, including botanical, bat, and ornithological surveys
  • Hold protected species survey licenses and be competent in UK Habitat Classification and habitat condition assessments
  • Design and implement ecological mitigation projects, including habitat creation and enhancement
  • Work independently and as part of a small team to achieve project goals
  • Hold a full UK driving license and be willing to travel for client meetings and site surveys
Requirements
  • BSc and/or MSc degree in Ecology or a closely related subject
  • CIEEM membership or eligibility
  • Sound knowledge of the UK planning system and environmental legislation
  • Author a range of typical ecology reports, including PEAs, ECIAs, EIAs, HRAs, BNGs, LEMPs, and CEMPs
  • Be proficient in BNG assessments and able to interpret and evaluate the Biodiversity Metric to deliver pragmatic solutions to clients
  • Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and lead negotiations with Natural England, County Ecologists, Local Authority planning officers, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of the team through providing in-house training and support to junior team members
  • Prepare fee proposals, tender applications, and manage project finances
