An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to take on a leadership role as a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager on Fletcher Ward.

Fletcher Ward is a fast-paced, JACIE accredited, 18 bedded Stem Cell Transplant and CAR-T Unit providing care for patients with haematological conditions and malignancies.

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and hard-working individual with proven clinical and leadership skills to join our team in delivering high-quality patient care.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Act as deputy to the ward manager, taking charge of the ward and ensuring high standards of patient care and environment.
  2. Provide effective leadership and role model, delivering direct clinical care and supporting governance implementation.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Demonstrate basic IT skills
  • IV trained

Desirable

  • Degree in health or nursing-related studies
  • Continuing professional development/reflective profile
  • Formal leadership and management training
  • Chemo trained
  • Teaching/training qualification (e.g. assessor)

Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience
  • Supervision of non-registered staff, pre-registration, and post-basic students
  • Ability to manage a team efficiently and effectively
  • Convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relatives, carers, and staff

Communication and Relationship

  • Physically able to perform a full range of nursing duties
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents
  • Recognition of own level of competence and limitations, able to communicate these to appropriate staff
  • Minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication

Analytical and Judgement Skills

  • Demonstrate ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise, and evaluate patient care
  • Ability to identify own learning needs
  • Able to respond to problem situations and ensure effective interventions are put in place

Planning and Organisation Skills

  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise, and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
  • Able to contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of local objectives and action plans

Physical Skills

  • Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties
  • Competent and capable of using medical equipment
