We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Technician in the Respiratory Phenomics Lab at the National Heart and Lung Institute.

The successful candidate will provide technical and practical support for our breath analysis laboratory, working with advanced analytical equipment including cIMS-QToF-MS, GC-MS, and GC-IMS. The lab is a part of our research facilities within the airway disease section, and the successful candidate will support the operational needs of the laboratory and facilitate all research activities required of this laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day operation of the lab and equipment, supporting and advising research staff with experimental work and advanced analytical equipment needs
  • Providing technical and general support in the lab to support research activities, including operating instruments, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and writing SOPs
  • Leading/supporting with the design, construction, assembly, and installation of specialist equipment as appropriate
  • Ensuring laboratory stock levels are adequate for research purposes and ordering consumables
  • Taking a lead role with health and safety regulations and undertaking risk and other assessments for laboratory processes and applying them within the workplace

Requirements:

  • Degree qualification (or equivalent) in Chemistry
  • Proven experience with advanced analytical equipment including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and IMS
  • Proven experience working in a Chemistry and Biology Research laboratory with standard chemistry techniques, including sample preparation, standard solutions, and equipment calibration
  • Self-motivation, showing initiative and confidence in working to meet deadlines, with the ability to work both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Working practical knowledge of microbiological techniques desirable
