Job Summary

Auburn University's Office of the Sr. Vice President for Research and Economic Development is seeking a highly skilled Technology Licensing Officer to manage the commercialization of the University's life sciences intellectual property portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and assessing new technology commercialization opportunities, evaluating the commercial potential of emerging technologies, and developing marketing and licensing strategies to attract potential licensees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and assess new technology commercialization opportunities arising from Auburn University, including evaluating the commercial potential of emerging technologies.
  • Develop and implement marketing and licensing strategies to attract potential licensees and negotiate license agreements.
  • Manage and maintain ongoing relationships with licensees, monitor their diligence in commercializing licensed technologies, and address matters of contract compliance.
  • Develop positive relationships with inventors to identify attractive Auburn University technologies for licensing to start-up or established companies.
  • Engage with companies to determine their needs and identify applicable Auburn University technologies for licensing and/or potential AU researchers to perform industry-sponsored research.
  • Provide guidance to research faculty on important research and technology innovation needs sought by industry and government entities, as well as trends in specific fields of research.
Requirements
  • 3 years of experience in one or more of the following: negotiating technology licenses or business contracts, market research, technical analysis, technical writing.
  • Relevant knowledge of sciences or experience working with scientists across various disciplines, preferably in physical sciences, life sciences, agriculture sciences, high-tech, engineering, or advanced materials.
  • Knowledge and experience in drafting and negotiating minor business contracts, including technology option and license agreements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a higher education environment, as well as effectively collaborating with a wide variety of industry and legal professionals.
  • Certified Licensing Professional.
  • Registered Technology Transfer Professional.
