About Our Client:

Our client, a leading UK product designer and distributor, is seeking a Junior Buyer to join their expanding team. With a dedicated in-house team of designers, they bring flair and imagination to their products. As an organisation, they are passionate about creating innovative and high-quality items.

Main Job Purpose:

Working closely with the senior buying and product development team to create exciting new product ranges.

  • Management of sub-categories, ensuring successful launches of regular seasonal newness and ongoing development of existing products.
  • Collaboration with the design team to write new product briefs for submission to suppliers.
  • Analyzing quotes and updating costing sheets accurately for senior buying team sign-off.
  • Negotiating pricing with suppliers in line with company margin requirements.
  • Developing strong supplier relationships.
  • Critical path management, adhering to key dates.
  • Sample management, including tracking, unpacking/packing, and sending out samples as required.
  • Working with suppliers to ensure all samples are present for range selection and photography dates.
  • Resolving day-to-day queries, collating, and submitting sample and pricing feedback.
  • Assisting product selection meetings at senior and director level.
  • Creating new SKUs and POs on internal systems, ensuring complete, updated, and accurate information.
  • Liaising closely with the design team and assisting with packaging specifications.
  • Trend analysis, identifying market and product opportunities, and working with the senior team to incorporate these in range reviews.
  • Attending UK and Overseas trade shows and regular buying trips to suppliers across the Far East.
Ad Hoc Duties:
  • Assisting with producing weekly trade reports.
  • Providing ad-hoc reports and analysis as required by the business.
  • Supporting the maintenance of accurate product data.
  • Supporting UK trade shows as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Contributing to creating an environment free from prejudice, racism, sexism, harassment, bullying, and any other form of marginalisation in the workplace.

Essential Skills/Experience:
  • Previous experience within a product development or buying team.
  • Strong Excel skills and high-level proficiency with other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and be resilient and flexible to change, while managing a high workload and conflicting priorities.
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Takes a forward-thinking approach to challenges that will affect now and in the future.
  • Methodical, analytical, and organised.
Desirable/Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Proven history of successful supplier negotiation.
  • Understanding of critical paths and seasonal range development.
  • Trend aware and insightful of competitor activity.
  • Accomplished communication skills when discussing finances, budgets, and costs.
