Job Summary

Nuvia is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for defining and distributing the scope of work to ensure that projects are executed safely, on time, and at appropriate levels of quality.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop designs to satisfy technical specifications.
  2. Lead teams for the full delivery lifecycle, including design, specification, procurement, supply/manufacture liaison, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, operator training, and quality assurance.
  3. Produce and approve deliverables throughout the delivery process.
  4. Check and approve discipline-specific design deliverables.
  5. Contribute to design reviews and safety reviews.
  6. Ensure quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process.
  7. Comply with safety legislation and statutory regulations.
  8. Develop cost-effective technical solutions.
  9. Manage staff development and safety culture.
  10. Manage contractors and provide technical consultancy.
Requirements

Essential

  1. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  2. Previous experience in the nuclear industry (desirable but not essential if transferrable skills are demonstrated).
  3. Proven track record of delivering design solutions in a highly regulated industry.
  4. Understanding of safety-led designs and regulatory compliance.
  5. Good understanding of industry safety legislation and statutory regulations.
  6. Understanding of modern delivery practices, such as BIM compliance and RIBA/BSRIA design delivery stage gates.
  7. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  8. Good level of commercial awareness.
  9. Experience of leading design teams and managing sub-contracts.

Desirable

  1. Full membership of a discipline-specific engineering institution.
  2. A full UK driving licence.
  3. Experience of bid preparation.
  4. An understanding of Nuclear Industry Design Substantiation.
