A leading regional main contractor is seeking a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a permanent basis. Based in Hertfordshire, the company is an innovative and ambitious business that combines industry expertise and local knowledge to transform communities and leave a lasting legacy.
The successful candidate will assist in the day-to-day financial and cost control on one or more developments, from inception through to completion of client and sub-contract final accounts. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing timely and accurate documentation/outputs to a given timetable, as directed by the SQS/MQS responsible
- Assisting in project cost control procedures, including re-measurement of the works/variations, inventories of stocks, and evaluation of the interim/Final Account
- Assisting in the management of cash, including careful administration of allocated sub-contractor accounts, and cultivating effective/longstanding relationships to promote dispute avoidance
- Assisting SQS/QS as required, in the Main and Subcontract Final Account process
- Compiling and/or maintaining sub-contract database/details, e.g. CIS/Insurances, etc.
- Attending, observing, and participating with other members of the project team, internal and external, in progress meetings, etc.
- Developing relationships with PQS and Design Team, supply chain, and internal project teams
- Ensuring the majority of work completed is accurate and free from errors
Candidates should possess a degree/HNC/HND qualification or be working towards a formal qualification. Knowledge and understanding of measurement and valuation, commercial skills to maximise value recovery, and cost control are essential. Familiarity with administration of contract records, construction knowledge, and contractual obligations are also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary.
