London, Greater London, United Kingdom King's College London Full time

The Addictions Department at King's College London is a leading research group in Europe, focused on health-related studies. We are part of the Academic Health Science Centre, collaborating with King's College London and NHS trusts. Our work was rated as leading in Substance Abuse Research by RAND Europe.

This role is based at the University of Hull, but our department is located in London. You will be involved in a newly NIHR-funded project developing and testing a Virtual Reality-enhanced Cue Exposure Treatment integrated with a wearable device to address craving and prevent relapse in people with cocaine dependence.

A key challenge in recovery from cocaine addiction is the trigger effect of environmental cues. This study aims to reduce the risk of relapse using novel technologies. It is a collaboration involving five UK universities led by the Addictions Department at King's College London, University of Kent, University of Birmingham, University of Southampton, and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Hull.

We seek an individual with a good understanding of addictive behaviors and experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative research in clinical settings. You should have established research skills relevant to this work, including data collection and recruitment. Conducting research using wearable devices and/or virtual reality is an asset.

As a successful candidate, you will be committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion principles, and possess clear communication skills. The post is full-time with a fixed-term contract of two years. You should hold an Undergraduate and/or Masters degree in a related area, including relevant training in research methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting quantitative or qualitative research methods
  • Good understanding of methods in addiction research
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusivity for staff and students
