Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Examiner Officer to join our team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a Medical Examiner Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the Medical Examiner Service, ensuring the quality of death certification, and providing advice based on a review of relevant health records.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Medical Examiner in scrutinizing deaths and ensuring necessary paperwork is accurate and complete.
  • Review patient records to gather information for the Medical Examiner, requiring a good working knowledge of medical language and clinical understanding.
  • Provide administrative support to Medical Examiners, including contacting next of kin to discuss the circumstances of death and explaining the proposed cause of death and wording of the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD).
  • Be a point of contact and source of advice for healthcare professionals from elsewhere in the organisation, outside of the Trust, and both the Coroners' Office and Registration services.

  • Appropriate GCSE's and/or 'A' levels.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and undertaking personal development opportunities.
