Perinatal Mental Health Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Perinatal service, you will play a vital role in providing timely assessment and support to patients who have been referred to our service.
Main Responsibilities- Conduct assessments, consultations, and provide telephone support to patients who require additional support.
- Identify and assess risk, particularly perinatal red flags, and complete high-quality risk assessments. Where high risks are identified, you will ensure liaison with relevant agencies.
- Assess the impact of a parent's mental illness on the baby and notify relevant agencies of concerns if necessary.
- Develop and maintain care plans, liaising with other team members as needed.
- Identify and report any areas of concern regarding child or adult protection issues and complete safeguarding referrals when required.
- Develop and maintain clinical skills necessary for caring for women and birthing people within the agreed service criteria through various learning opportunities.
- Provide specialist advice and support to professionals and mothers regarding safe medication usage in pregnancy and while breast/chest feeding, liaising with prescribers for medication commencement/changes and medication effectiveness monitoring.
- Maintain clear communication systems and manage risk effectively.

Person SpecificationWe are looking for a candidate with a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) qualification, Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy, Certificate of qualification in Social Work, or Diploma or Degree in Social Work. Previous experience in a relevant Adult Mental Health Service community setting with care coordinator experience is essential. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of women and birthing people suffering from perinatal mental illness through evidence of ongoing formal training is also required.
Evidence of commitment to quality improvement in own clinical area and/or service provision, post-basic professional development/portfolio evidence, and a driver's license with suitable transport to carry out community nursing within a rural and urban geographical area are also essential.
