About the Role
">The New Zealand Defence Force seeks highly skilled and motivated individuals to fill Combat Engineer positions. As a Combat Engineer, you will be responsible for providing combat engineering support to the Army, ensuring the safe movement of troops and equipment on the battlefield.
">Key Responsibilities
">- Providing explosives, bridge construction and demolition, field surveying, mine clearance, booby traps, explosives search, boating, water supply, tree felling, sawmill operation, minor construction, rigging and small engines expertise
- Maintaining the Army's ability to move and manoeuvre without interference from hostile forces
- Supporting Infantry (Rifleman) training and operations
Training and Development
">Newly appointed Combat Engineers will undergo an 8-week course at the School of Military Engineering, Linton Military Camp. This comprehensive training program covers the basics of field engineering, including bridging, water supply, explosives, field defences, obstacles, booby traps, boating, and other subjects.
">Upon successful completion of the initial training, Combat Engineers will continue their professional development through short courses and specialist skills training. These programs will equip them with qualifications in areas such as Royal NZ Engineering Engine Hands (small motor maintenance and servicing), Search, First Air, and Rigid Hull Boat course.
">Combining hands-on experience with theoretical knowledge, Combat Engineers will have the opportunity to progress their careers and specialise in various disciplines, contributing significantly to the success of the New Zealand Defence Force.

">Careers in the New Zealand Defence Force are well-rewarded and diverse. With increasing experience and additional skills and qualifications, salaries will rise accordingly. The current salary range is estimated to be around $129,061 per year.

">To be eligible for this role, applicants must meet specific requirements:
">- Be at least 17 years old
- Meet citizenship and security clearance requirements
- Hold 3 years secondary school education
- Be medically fit for service
Estimated Salary: $129,061 per year
">Please note that qualifications may be used to assess trade suitability. Additionally, depending on higher qualifications chosen, the return of service can range from one to two years.
